Milford Academy (N.Y.) running back Montrell Dobbs on Tuesday gave Temple an oral commitment to play football. His commitment came less than a week after close friend and Milford linebacker Tyler Matakevich committed to the Owls. Both prep schoolers played high school football in Connecticut and will enroll at Temple on Jan. 17. Dobbs was a standout at Ansonia High before going to prep school, while Matakevich led St. Joseph High to Connecticut Class S state championships in 2009 and 2010.

“I love everything about Temple,” Matakevich told Sean Patrick Bowley of the Connecticut Post about his recent on-campus visit to North Broad Street. “It’s in downtown Philly, but the biggest part is the coaches. The coaches make you feel at home. Players are awesome, it was so cool to hang out with them.”

Dobbs was the 2010 Connecticut High School Coaches Association player of the year. He rushed for 3,445 yards and 45 touchdowns en route to leading Ansonia to the state final against St. Joseph.

“I’m real excited,” Dobbs told the Connecticut Post. Temple head coach Steve Addazio “is a great coach. He’s a Connecticut guy [Cheshire High]. He’s got a lot of history with Connecticut kids. I grew up playing for straightforward coaches and feel he’ll be a straightforward coach.”

Dobbs originally gave an oral commitment to UConn, but was not admitted. A partial qualifier, he said he’s unsure about whether he will be eligible to play next season for the Owls.
