Alisha S. Stevens gives us a dose of what her experiences in the world of fashion have taught her and sheds light on her clothing line, “Queens“. Interview and audio.

Name: Alisha S. Stevens

Tell me a little about yourself. Where are you from? What’s your educational background? What are your professional goals? I am a Fashion Design; my brand is Queens by Alisha S. The brand represents the freedom to be a woman, the freedom to live a fast-pace lifestyle and the freedom to work. I have been an active designer for about 7years now, I’ve worked with 50cent as Stylist and numerous other entertainers and Athletes. Currently I’m host of Goin In Radio, an on-line radio show with Celebrity Hip Hop Blogger Jazzy F. Baby and Connie Chris (formerly Mz Berry of For Da Luv of Ray J) to listen log-on  Presently I reside in Hartford, CT (born and raised). I graduated Weaver High School class of 2005; my Bachelors of Business Administration in design and management is in progress at Parsons, The New School for Design in New York City. My professional goals are to make Queens by Alisha S. a household name. I would love to branch out in to home décor, fragrance, maternity, and so on. And I would love to keep the head quarters in Connecticut to help create jobs.

What does fashion mean to you?  To me fashion means freedom of expression. Fashion gives me a voice to share with the people. It allows me to be sexy and sophisticated. Gives my Audrey Hepburn vs. Lil Kim personality an outlet. Fashion also means a way to make a living. A way to feed my family, and that is real.

How would you define your city’s fashion?  Hartford’s fashion scene is very trendy. Many of the best dressed are those who follow trends. Myself I shy away from them; my personal style is eclectic with a mix of old school femininity, and that shows in my designs.

When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?  I was in high school possibly 15 years old.

What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?  I think it was my high school Jr. Prom dress. I am not sure I cannot remember.

How long does it usually take you to construct a piece?  Depends on the piece and how much detail is involved, but no more than a day if I work consistently (minimal distractions).

Who is one of your favorite local models to work with?  Maria White, she has long legs, chocolate skin and a walk that would part the Red Sea she is fierce!

Describe the general process you go through to design a piece of clothing.  There is no general process! I am an artist; and I become inspired mostly by the woman I aspire to be [in life]. Where I am on my journey (life’s journey) shows in my most current collections.
If there must be a process it is inspiration than design.
What matters to you most as a fashion designer?  The freedom to create and my artistic freedom is most important.

Who are some of your favorite designers?  Donatella Versace, Michael Kors, Kimora Lee Simmons, Cynthia Rowley, and Tracy Reese those are a few.
Where can readers buy your clothes?  On or for custom pieces they can email me at

How do you select your models?  Based on height, weight, if the look they have fits my collection and most importantly their personality. If a model has a horrible attitude than she will not represent my brand it does not matter how amazing her look is.
