by CTalentTv on February 28, 2011

Ru Williams is one of CT’s hottest R&B acts and to go along with his incredible vocals, he has a great personality as well. With very demanding schedule, the up-n-coming R&B star managed to pencil CTalent in and granted this interview. Interview and audio/video for your listening pleasure!

Name: Ru Williams

Where are you from: Hartford ct!

How long have you been singing:  I’ve been singing since age 7 professionally for the past 5yrs.

Usually people say they begin singing in church, was this the case for you Ru:  You hit it on the nose! def started in church choir got moved up to the big choir fast..(I actually played the drums first but once they heard me sing it was a wrap..lol..I still play a little tho).

What is the music scene like in CT right now: CT music has def stepped there game up, R&B n hip hop, before we sounded like NY or down south but people are starting to take it more seriously and make records! (n I’m proud to be a front runner!)

Have you every collaborated with one of your R&B peers in CT:  You know what I haven’t  its always hooks for rappers but If production is right and concept is hot I’m down!

If you owned a label right now, but could only sign CT artists, who would you choose:  Myself on some diddy shit..LOL..nah that’s a tough one..I’d think I have to set up a showcase and see who really got it cuz a lot of people around the way is hot but they gotta have the full package..Gotta get back to you on that one.

Can you remember the feeling you had during your first ever live performance:  Oh yeah I think I was 13 got on a bill to open for Big Pun, lox, Montell Jordan I was in a group at the time it was crazy! girls screaming didn’t even know the words..lol..But my first show as a solo act was opening up for Joe on valentines day..yeah now that was a show I came into my own then Hartford held me down ya heard!

While recording your mixtape “Deal or No Deal” what was the thought process during the developmental phases of it:  To show I can rock on any beat do it better then some of your favorite artists while the same time giving you original music..Gotta go hard on da mixtapes so people keep checking for you..Deal or No Deal I’m still gonna Rock!

Have you ever been requested to sing one of your songs to a female: Yes-sir, B-day parties, weddings, engagement parties, done it all!
