HS Football Ratings: 1 Xavier Vs. 2 Hand Showdown Set For Friday

Bloomfield moved into The Courant area ratings for the first time this season. Its No. 10 position occurred after a 31-0 win against Rockville-Vernon combined with a 20-8 loss by then No. 8 Manchester to Glastonbury. Xavier-Middletown and Hand-Madison remained Nos. 1 and 2 in the area and state ratings setting up the possible game of the year when the two meet at Palmer Field on Friday night.

The State

1. XAVIER-MIDDLETOWN (4-0): Trounced Hamden 49-7 as DeAngelo Berry rushed for 207 yards and five touchdowns. Last week: 1. This week: Hand-Madison at Palmer Field Friday.

2. HAND-MADISON (4-0): Brendan Bilcheck threw TD passes to Caleb Ewald and Matt Sullivan and ran for one score to lead the Tigers over Wilbur Cross-New Haven 49-14. LW: 2. TW: at Xavier Friday.

3. ANSONIA (4-0): Arkeel Newsome rushed for 164 yards and two TDs in 35-7 victory against NVL rival Holy Cross-Waterbury. LW: 4. TW: Seymour Thursday.

4. STAPLES-WESTPORT (3-0): Did not play. LW: 3. TW: at Danbury Friday.

5. WINDSOR (3-0): Did not play. LW: 5. TW: Simsbury Friday.

6. GREENWICH (3-0): Playing after having an off week didn’t slow down the Cardinals who trounced Trumbull 62-31. LW: 6. TW: at Ludlowe-Fairfield Friday.

7. GLASTONBURY (4-0): Rushed for 175 yards, and its defense was impressive at Manchester. LW: 8. TW: Maloney-Meriden Friday.

8. WEST HAVEN (4-0): Ervin Philips had two rushing TDs in 48-12 win at Sheehan-Wallingford.LW: 9. TW: Amity-Woodbridge Friday.

9. BERLIN (4-0): Had no problems in defeating Weaver-Hartford 47-0. LW: 7. TW: at Northwest Catholic-West Hartford Saturday.

10. MASUK-MONROE (4-0): Led 42-14 at halftime and breezed past Bunnell-Stratford 63-14. LW: 10. TW: New Fairfield Friday.

7. MIDDLETOWN (4-0): Allowed first points of the season, but it mattered little, as the Blue Dragons beat Wethersfield 41-7. LW: 9. TW: Hall-West Hartford Friday.

8. SOUTHINGTON (4-0): Accumulated 447 yards in total offense in 42-7 win against Conard-West Hartford. LW: 10. TW: at South Windsor Saturday.

9. HARTFORD PUBLIC (3-0): Did not play. LW: 7. TW: at Manchester Friday.

10. BLOOMFIELD (4-0): Moved to No. 3 in the Class S playoff ratings with its win over Rockville. LW: Not rated. TW: at Tolland Saturday.
