Each week during the high school football season, beat writer Tom Yantz evaluates the top individual performances in the area and selects his Fabulous 15 from the weekend. The best from Week 2:

Jordan Bell, Hall: Had touchdown runs of 45 and 57 yards and a total of 191 on the ground in a 48-7 victory over East Hartford.

Tim Boyle, Xavier: Was 17 of 26 for 273 yards and had two TDs in the air as the Falcons defeated North Haven, 49-12.

David Campbell, Bloomfield: Averaged 17.3 yards a carry (12 for 208) and tallied three TDs as the Warhawks breezed past East Catholic, 53-14.

Armando Centeno, Prince Tech: Recorded a safety, scored a TD on an 18-yard fumble return and made seven tackles in a 46-0 romp over Whitney Tech.

Quinn Fleeting, Windsor: Tossed three TD passes, threw for 210 yards and ran for 80 yards and two more scores in a 49-7 rout of Bristol Central.

Justin Gombotz, Berlin: Rushed for 196 yards and two TDs to spark Berlin past Rocky Hill, 25-14.

James Hudson, Bulkeley: Returned a punt 80 yards for a TD and also ran for 125 yards to lead the Bulldogs over Fermi, 22-6.

Marquis Little, Manchester: Completed 15 of 23 passes for three TDs and ran for 42 yards and another score to power the Indians over South Windsor, 38-7.

Logan Marchi, St. Paul-Bristol: Passed for 367 yards and five TDs in 56-49 loss to Crosby.

Colin Moore, Avon: Set a team-record with 293 rushing yards and four TDs as the Falcons beat Coventry/Windham Tech/Bolton 35-15.

Zach Rollins, Stafford/East Windsor: Accumulated 202 yards on the ground and scored three TDs in a 52-20 victory over Housatonic/Wamogo.

Vin Sansone, Cheshire: Rushed for 162 yards and one score and passed for 92 yards in a 20-0 triumph over Branford.

Jalian Swain, Old Saybrook/Westbrook: Carried the ball 19 times for 190 yards and four TDs in a 25-13 victory over East Hampton/Vinal Tech.

Derrick Villard, Cromwell: Scored three TDs in the first quarter and wound up with 172 rushing yards to lead the Panthers past Lewis Mills, 47-14.

Chris Young, Rocky Hill: Raced for 222 yards, including for a TD, against Berlin.

Some notable games to watch this week:Friday

Fairfield Prep (2-0) vs. Xavier (2-0) at Palmer Field, Middletown, 7 p.m.: Fairfield Prep has 47-0 wins over Wilbur Cross and East Haven and takes aim at stunning Xavier. With Boyle, running back DeAngelo Berry and more, Xavier should end Prep’s shutout streak.

Cheshire (2-0) vs. Hand (2-0) at Surf Club, Madison, 7: Sansone is a running/passing threat for Cheshire. Hand knocked off Hillhouse 37-19 behind a physical, resilient defense. Quarterbacks Brendan Bilcheck and Matt Sullivan were productive against Hillhouse.

Manchester (2-0) at Simsbury (2-0), 7: Pivotal early-season CCC Division I game for the playoff aspirations for both teams. Manchester features tight end Andrew Isaacs, running back Elijah Udoh and Little. Simsbury ran for 251 yards, and its defense was very good in a 21-0 victory at Conard. Simsbury hasn’t been scored upon this year.


Bloomfield (2-0) at Northwest Catholic (2-0), 10:30 a.m.: Winner grabs first place in the CCC Division III West. Pedro Roman passed for 176 yards and Campbell ran for 208 in the win over East Catholic. Nick Gaynor ran for 81 yards and two TDs in 34-6 triumph against Weaver.

Berlin (2-0 at Tolland (2-0), 1 p.m.: Berlin passed for 320 yards in its opener against East Catholic and ran for 368 against Rocky Hill. Tolland’s defense made a great late stand to lift the Eagles past Plainville, 22-20. Winner takes over first place in the CCC Division III East.
